MDA has been appointed a commercial distributor for the Americas by the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) for the distribution of ALOS products from the ALOS Americas Data Node (AADN). ALOS is the follow on to JAXA's high-performance satellite, JERS-1.
ALOS (Daichi) was successfully launched in January 2006 from Tanegashima Space Center (TNSC) by the H-IIA launch vehicle. ALOS has three sensors: the Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping (PRISM), which is comprised of three sets of optical systems to measure precise land elevation; the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2 (AVNIR-2), which is used to image land and coastal zones; and the Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR), which enables day and night all-weather imaging.
- ALOS Sensor Information
All three ALOS sensors (PALSAR, AVNIR-2, and PRISM) are commercially available to our clients in both North and South America. MDA also provides ALOS value-added products and supplies ALOS data to projects worldwide.

ALOS Archive Data
ALOS data is archived on a regular basis and housed in a searchable catalogue. The data dates back to late 2006. A client service representative can assist you in searching for data over your area of interest, or you may go directly to the on-line search tool

ALOS Data Programming Requests
Programming requests from clients are accepted and scheduled according to satellite imaging availability. Priority is placed on filling a comprehensive pre-launch imaging strategy. The ALOS mission plan attempts to maximize observation efficiency while considering the needs of potential ALOS data users.
Important points to note are:
- Your request should be placed at least 4 weeks prior to the cycle in which the imaging would occur.
- Minimal change to the systematic
observation strategy increases the likelihood of acquiring your data.
- It is recommended that the default sensor mode is maintained for imaging requests. (Requests for imaging with a non-default sensor mode are unlikely to be sucessful).
- There is no additional charge to place a request.
- Programming requests are on a case-by-case basis and imaging cannot be guaranteed.
With years of expertise in the radar and optical remote sensing market, MDA is positioned to help you benefit from the possibilities of multi-sensor solutions. ALOS PALSAR's multi polarization features integrate into our current SAR offerings from RADARSAT-1 and planned offerings from the enhanced and higher resolution capabilities of RADARSAT-2.
