InSAR is an established and proven technique that uses two or more satellite images to extract topography (DEM generation) and/or to measure subtle ground surface deformation.
The ability to monitor and map movement of the ground with centimeter to sub-centimeter accuracy is invaluable to evaluating and mitigating the impacts of human-induced deformation (e.g. subsidence due to oil and ground water extraction) and naturally occuring surface deformation (e.g. due to volcanic activity, or slope failure). |
