MDA’s Geospatial Services to distribute RapidEye satellite data

Richmond, B.C. – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed a contract with RapidEye AG (RapidEye) to distribute RapidEye satellite data to the Canadian market. MDA will distribute the data through its subsidiary, MDA Geospatial Services Inc. (MDA GSI). The imagery can be used for monitoring, mapping, and disaster management applications.

The distribution of RapidEye imagery expands the extensive list of satellite data that MDA GSI has been distributing to Canadian and global markets since 1997. MDA was the prime contractor in designing the end-to-end satellite constellation mission for RapidEye.

Paulo Bezerra, General Manager of MDA GSI said, ‘We are very pleased to bring RapidEye’s multispectral, high resolution satellite data to the Canadian market place. We look forward to future collaboration with RapidEye on developing applications and solutions from RapidEye data.’

The RapidEye information solution includes a constellation of five Earth Observation satellites and the related ground infrastructure. Each RapidEye satellite carries an identical sensor and travels on the same orbital plane, which means that an image collected on one satellite is equivalent to that of the other four satellites. This allows the constellation to collect vast amounts of imagery with quick revisit times.
