CBC Interview with RADARSAT International - Jan. 11, 2005

Sri Lanka Post-Tsunami Flooding RADARSAT-1 Multi-Date Merge

This RADARSAT-1 change detection image was created by combining an image acquired prior to the Tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004 and an image acquired after the Tsunami.

In this 2-date image, zones that appear with red or blue tones indicate areas that have undergone some surface change that has affected the RADAR backscatter. In particular, red tones indicate areas that are flooded during the post Tsunami image acquisition (Jan. 02, 2005).

It should be noted that the eastern portion of Sri Lanka was affected by monsoonal rains at the time of image acquisition so this flood may be caused by monsoon or by remnants of the Tsunami.
