Flooding in Indonesia imaged by RADARSAT-1

Date Posted: Feb. 19, 2007

Torrential rains in early February 2007 caused massive flooding in Indonesia's capital and surrounding areas. Low-lying areas were quickly inundated as swollen rivers and canals burst their banks. In order to map areas of flooding, geomatics specialists merged and compared a pre-flood RADARSAT-1 image (acquired May 15, 2005) with one acquired during the flooding event (February 5th, 2007). Areas of change (i.e. flooding) in the Tangerang and Bekasi districts are identified in red.
